Splitcoast stampers

 AHOY!!Mateys!!!!
Yes, it is pirate themed, but not all of the cards have to have pirates.

I was cajoled into joining a virtual Stamp night over at Splitcoast Stampers by a new cyber friend, Crafty math chick!!! We are challenged to make five cards and only take 45 minutes for each one. There were different challenges of course, and we rec'd one every hour on the hour from 6pm to 10 pm. Happy to say that I got them all done. It was with some pretty wonderful help. All Fan Club Members got sneak peeks at two of the challenges, which means that I had advance notice of the first and last challenge and had that time to prepare and ready my challenge ideas. I'll take the next few days to share them with you

Challenge number one: "Weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen' by fionna51 challenged us to use fabric on our cards
I ironed the fabric, sewed tucks in the eyelet to prepare for the challenge.
then I sewed the fabric to a piece of white cs  to have something to sew the fabric to and for stability.
then came the elements...I stamped onto the eyelet fabric the 'remember' and cut it out using my paper trimmer. added some black faux stitching with  a marker to outline a leave, part of a white flower, and the bottom left hand corner. lastly, I glued the white cs to the yellow orange cs.

I have a wonderful Mother figure in Maine. She just lost her darling husband weeks ago and I thought that a Mother’s Day card just might cheer her up a bit!!
This is my Verve’s Viva la Verve sketch for week four. Shannon created this great sketch and even a tutorial for creating the starbursts.

May Flowers

The challenge at Daisy Doodles this week is MAY FLOWERS! I needed, yet, another journal for my niece for her trip to Portugal in two weeks, so I chose ‘Potty’ from the fabulous creations of Jules at the Daisy Doodles store.
Sunday was a long day, full of fun with the family and I am exhausted, so this post will be short.
I am even going to have to wait to put up my challenges til after I take a nap.

I was crafting on Friday with my friend and she made the luggage tag. didn’t she do a great job of creating the tag to match my ‘Potty’? Cheli just loves to come over and spend the day chatting and creating AND I love to have her!!!

Card Ideas and ME

Here's the Card ideas challenge from Designed2Delight that I promised you on Thursday.
As part of being guest designer for Card Ideas I had three challenges.
  • A Card- Bullfrog and Butterflies
  • Anything But A Card per Debbie's recipe here today
  • Monday stay tuned to Card Ideas for my final challenge
Debbie Fisher, DT extraordinaire for Card Ideas, has challenged us to a recipe
  • One ribbon
  • Two different patterned papers
  • Three buttons
So I got my project done and then went to recheck the challenge requirements. Come to find out I had no buttons or ribbon on this creation. What to do? Make another one? Add buttons and ribbon to be the rule follower? Leave it be and be glad it got finished?
Well, what do you think?
  • I added the required elements....you'll see them.
  • I made another one.
  • Glad that I got them finished.
OOOOPS! But wait....the challenge was a recipe ...AND..... ANYTHING BUT A CARD!
PHEW, I got that part correct...thankfully!!!!!
the tags that have Cardology and my name were added digitally. IRL they are blank so the traveler can add the country's name that will be included in this journal.  the four tags with brads are movable, they can be turned and jiggled to the owner's content!!!! The dragonfly collage of Delightful Inspiration was chosen because the owner of this journal is a shutterbug and she loves all things especially flowers and dragonflies. She will be traveling all over Europe and connecting with different groups of friends for three months. After coloring the image i covered it with Sepia glossy accents. here you can see it glisten in the camera's flash. The rim of the buttons also have clear glossy accents which gives them more depth on camera.
My two required patterned papers- the buttons and the background.
Almost all of the elements are sewn to the panel. On the inside I printed out a bit of history regarding Portugal.
Another friend is going on the same trip and I couldn't leave her out...so here's the second which I followed  the recipe to a 'T'. First, a close up of the tag.
And here's the journal......
First, I sponged black all over the edges and then got some cream acrylic paint and brushed it on over the black. Sprayed front and back with a sealer to keep the paint intact. made the front panel using a SU DSP of books and the typed page. three buttons and the ribbon were sewn down with gold floss. these journals are going to be traveling across the big pond and handled everyday, they need to be secure. This one was much easier with less elements, but fun just the same. I included a map of Portugal on the inside back cover and "10 Reasons to visit Lisbon" on the front inside cover.
Journal away ladies. they both receive their journals today as we are getting together for a two hour Segway tour of Clearwater.
there are two other gals joining them so you will get to see two more journals in the following weeks before the big trip in May.
It was a delight to go through the D2D images and pick the ones that I had for the Anything But A card challenge and matched up with the recipients of the journals.
thanks for coming by!

Verve goodness

First of all....I won four stamp sets from VERVE at the release party last Friday night! You should have been there! Lots of fun and plenty of prizes...I have met some great ppl there, too.
I have for you today Verve's "Viva la Verve!" challenges for week one and three.
Here's week two, if you missed it VLV2.

here are the sketches

And here are my cards
The tag pulls out on this one and I tied a small piece of pink gingham ribbon to the cotton twine.
the background was stamped with Verve goodness and you can see the RX for this card at the end of this post.
this started as a wedding invitation. the embossed background was the front of the wedding invitation. I cut the front panel away from the back of the card and cut the white ribbon off, too!
This card measures 5 3/8 " square.
I even used the Bride's invitation stamp on the pale pink square behind the embossed vellum.
Can you see some of the words on the very top above left of the spellbinders tag and just above the middle of the bow?
got my Just Rite stamper out to create the monogram of the happy couple, the date, and place of the ceremony. they are getting married tomorrow at Sunrise overlooking Tampa Bay.
the sun will rise over the bay and what a WOW factor..can't wait to see it and
share the joy of Jen and Jason.

Happy, Happy, Happy

Surprise!!!!!!
It's Lee's birthday and to celebrate were having a hop!
Yes, Lee, this one's for YOU!!!
Happy, happy, happy day!!!!
Happy Birthday to YOU
Lee loves pink and shimmer, glitter, glisten and shine.

A big slice of cake from Daisy Doodles since my free week card is due this week. My yellow cake sure is yellow. I put strawberries in the pink frosting for the filling and tons of glitter in the piped on ridge of pink goodness....yummmmmm!!! I made sure to cut 12 pieces of this delicious cake so that Lee and every one on the hop could have a slice...with one left over for good luck! this surprise was very last minute. Crafty Math Chick asked if i was interested in making a card for Lee and joining in the blog hop. Oh, why not...great reason to make a card. Made the sentiment for Lee on the computer and followed the pink/glitter theme as well.

Here's a list of the birthday wisher's blogs. Be sure to stop and say HI! to Lee, too!

Bullfrog and butterflies

 ...........NEWSFLASH...........
I was asked by Faith at
Delightful Inspiration
to be a Guest Designer at Card Ideas Challenge! I was tickled pink to be asked. I make a card each and every week just to get the freebie that is offered for joining the challenges. My Spellbinders Pennants had just arrived so it was the perfect op to use them here with Bullfrog and Butterflies...one of the newest images of Faith's. The largest pennant is quite long so I just chopped off the top! don't you just love the lacey pennant in the back and how the two fit just perfectly?

I used a sketch from SFYTT over at Jen's blog, 'I heart 2 stamp'.

Tried coloring that bullfrog in two different colors for a more realistic looking froggy, but didn't manage what I had set out to do, but I still think he's the best looking bf around. Popped up the turquoise flower and cut out and double popped up the double set for an accent at the top left. Couldn't stop there...three wee ones at the bottom. The page in the background is from a Jimmy Buffet novel that is one of my go to books for typed backgrounds. Stay tuned....Faith asked me to join the Card Ideas and create 'something' using Debbie F's challenge. That should be up on April 23rd at Card Ideas, the challenge blog for D2D. I'll have it here on my blog, so stop by for the link!!

Easter with the Mouse

WMS-Waltz-logo-final-w-text-smll
This first started as a difficult challenge as I have no Easter stamps from WMS. Not a bunny, or egg, or sentiment pertaining to Easter. I own about 8-10 stamp sets and not one says Easter to me. Got out all the sets and stared at them all. Reverted, once again, to the two original sets that I first purchased Celtic Heritage and Irish Blessings…
AND THEN IT HIT ME!!!!!!
Nothing says Easter more than Christ…he died on the cross for us.
The basket to portray the cross was another matter. I checked out all the lovely baskets that Claire has for free in her digital category. They would require some cutting, whereas the basket I chose took only four swipes through the Cuttlebug with the Scalloped envelope die. Took the easy road and here tis:
WMS April 2011 jdg01 - Copy-1
WMS April 2011 jdgilch
I was going to boil two eggs and DH said he would eat egg salad so ten went into the pot and I am so glad that I had ten for practice. I had three colors of dye yellow, green and purple…and no this was not planned in advance. God works in mysterious ways! For the details on the eggs see below.
The cross is from Celtic Heritage and the sentiment is words that were chosen from Irish Blessings. I had to get the Stampa-ma-jig out for the appropriate placement. I could not eyeball the  proper alignment…trust me, I tried it!  The cracked egg is from my breakfast on Saturday morning, something said to wash it and keep it! TMI!!!!
In order to keep the waltz moving I will have details below for those that may be interested.
Thanks for waltzing by today!

Eggs wms 2011 jdg

the eggs----(1)Stamped the More Mustard onto tissue paper, then crumbled it up, covered egg with glue stick and placed the crumbled tissue on the egg working and cutting with scissors to get just the right amount of paper. The egg was dyed purple and then I sponged some Shimmer Mist around the cross. (2)Stamped Stazon Purple onto shrink wrap and then got the heat gun to it and let it shrink right onto the already multi-colored egg. (3) Stamped Stazon green onto tissue paper, cut it out and sprayed adhesive onto the egg, then shrink wrapped it.
More eggs-----More eggs jdg April 2011
The greenish blue egg at the top---Cut out the Stazon Purple stamped cross and lightly glued with glue stick and then shrink wrapped it. The rest were just played with in the color baths and it brought back memories of coloring eggs when the four kids were young.
Few more pics of the basket as I took some back and side shots. This top shot…only one egg(#3) would fit into the basket.
Top shot 4.2011jdg

Here’s a great shot of the front where you can see the shimmery gold vellum behind the cross. the Beaded circle were punched from AAmethyst and topped with the flecked vellum—you can barely notice it in the photos, but I also punched out 1/8” circles from each ‘bead’.  Wove gold cord through the beads. I used the tiniest beaded circle to make the center of the flower. You can see on another shot that it’s slit and cupped for more depth.

Let’s Have Tea

The Mischief Makers at WMSC have designed a very simple sketch for this weeks challenge. I decided to take the challenge, obviously, and ink up a very little used set lately.
WMSC_ jdg_04.14.11
The paper was just sitting there on my craft table and I went with it. the finished card is small at 3 x 5 1/2” add the button and sentiment layer and it’s a bit bigger!
For the background I set up the stamps on the acrylic block, all five of them and then randomly in some sort of fashion stamped them onto the River Rock.

Thinking of You

It’s TIME for Verve’s Get Your Diva On
This month is different and fun.
Amber has made up recipes to follow according to the initial in your first name.
Here's the selection:
You know that I do layers, but I wanted to do a round card for this challenge so I chose
circle for Layers/Shape. Thanks, Amber!
Oh, and I finally found a candle jar lid to hold my cards...next I'll look for a floral frog.
The candle jar lid doesn't work for all of my cards...I need variety!!
Mea Culpa....I used ribbon! OOOPS. I added ribbon to my card.
I added sewing and scallops, too...LOL.

Garden party

This is the April D2D image that was free if you played the previous week. Head on over to Faith's blog and store for more fabulous images like this one. For a better look, remember, you can always click on the photo to enlarge it. Those two wee mice getting ready to eat that cupcake are just so cute. Haven't doodled in so long, it was fun. I usually print onto white cs, but this time I wanted a softer feel so I used SU Confetti Cream.

Lil Duck

Made this card in March so that I could have my post up and ready on time.
Been hither and yon the last two weeks and it's great to be home.
Got home last night and had a great time with friends.
Daisy Doodles Challenge's theme is Easter Fun.
Get creative and make whatever you think Easter fun is for you.
Would love to see a Daisy Doodles image, but it doesn't have to be.
I have liked this 'Lil Duck' since the get go.
You can find him in the Daisy Doodle Store in the Easter section.
The background is a 12 x 12 glossy printed paper that I cut up to get the sky and grass like I wanted.
Paper pierced the clouds and horizon, used the sewing machine around the edges, made the flower stem using floss and some crewel stitches, and used floss, too, to tie knots and make the center of the button/flower.. The sun is yellow gingham DP to go with the ribbon.
Happy Easter to every one that takes the time to stop by and see my latest.
Thanks for coming by!

Spring has sprung

It's time for a Daisy Doodles free week card! This is the week in between the DD challenges that the DT does a free week card. That means that we can make anything we want with any image available to us and post it on our blog! this week I chose the Spring Has Sprung from the Spring/flower section at the store.
I have been so busy with so many other things that I had forgotten about this free week totally! Rhonda had mentioned that she had her card done and I was so glad that she did or I would  not have gotten mine done.
As I entered my craft room, the phone rang. It was a patient of mine from years ago. She and her husband became patients in 1986 and I have remained friends with them ever since. They have homes in  Maine and here in Florida. The doctor's office was not a close drive, but they loved him and didn't want to find any other closer to their home since they were only here for a few months every year. I have been to visit them in Maine and my DH  and I have taken them to dinner and they have taken us out as well. They even call us when they need a plumber!!!! Gert called today to say that Brooksie went with God yesterday, peacefully in his sleep. He was born in January 1915...you can do the math. They haven't been able to travel to Florida for a few years due to a couple of  Gert's falls. This card is for Gert---she is so card worthy...she just loves the cards that I make. She won't even think of sending the card gift sets that I have made for her.
The Fancy Tag is brand spanking new! I had rec'd two GCs for I Heart Papers and just spent them last week when the new Spellbinders had arrived. It was tough to choose but I managed to get 5 sets of Spellbinders, and I LOVE them all. The circle fits right in the middle. Spellbinders plans that, don't you think?
The story was long so will leave you, now...thank you for coming by!

I have no marina Mist paper...that I could find!!!!
I sponged MMist on the embossing folder and white paper.
the ribbons are from SU...River Rock and Cherry Cobbler.
I placed the sentiment in the watering can while in Word.
I use text wrapping to get the images/sentiments to move where I want them to be.
The butterflies, one smaller than the other are popped up to get a nice depth.
The label eighteen is sponged with the RRock.
The ink always looks very green, IRL, too!
You can see that the ribbon looks more like the real RRock.
