Hope Butterfly

This weeks freebie at Delightful Inspiration is 'Hope Butterfly'.

I printed out a few of the images from the set that I rec'd

on Friday of last week.

Now that I am looking at the set, I used every one of them, even the 'hope'.

The border I printed twice, rotating it once!

The Flower I printed three times but only used two of them.

And the final creation with ribbon and the top wings cut with a craft knife.

I created a banner with my newest Spellbinders set and just hand wrote 'spooky' on there.

Popped up the pumpkins and added some hand made swirly gigs to add some pizzazz.

Sprayed some glimmer mists on the swirlys and on the card for some shimmer.

Delightful Inspiration's Autumn Mums is a beautiful set of images

that I received for free for playing the progressive challenge.

Each week that I play and upload my card to D2D I receive another freebie.

check it out you, too, could be a winner every week of a stunning or cute,

or just plain wonderful image or set.

I picked out the paper, both designs are on one sheet, and then chose the prismacolors

that would match the papers.

The Autumn colors obviously for the Autumn Mums.

Added some silver floss and the only silver button in my collection that was even close to

the best size for that spot.

Have you seen the new, updated, gorgeous look at DDCCB?

Jules did a fab job of re-doing the Daisy's blog and it looks so fresh and vibrant.

This was a fun and quick card since the leaf was colored weeks ago

in anticipation of this fall challenge.
I used the Japanese screw punch to make the two holes, then thread the twine through and tie on the leaf.
I used two different kraft papers and a leaf border punch.
This card, not counting the coloring of the leaf, took about five minutes, not
exactly my usual card!!!

Delightful Inspirations challenge is due by 11:59...in just a bit!!!

Wasn't going to be able to get it done and then some time this evening opened up

but then I had two phone calls to make, two that I was waiting to receive,and just got off the

phone with one of my daughters........

and here I am.

The freebie this week is "Happiness Blooms".

With time being what it is, I just outlined the flower, leaves, and stem then took some OMS and just did some small circles to the outlines and this is what came of it!! I like it...simple...easy...DONE!!!

Falloween kitty

I regretfully admit that I did not play with my digital freebie last week at

Delightful Inspirations. School Maisie Belle was printed and given a

sentiment but never made the front of a card, but stay tuned, she will get her due.

(It's been a bit sad around my house for the past week.
God has given us strength to forge ahead and healing has begun for us all.)

With this being the first digital freebie this month it's all mine with out playing last week.

PLUS...I won name that puppy..go see him HERE.

He was a fb contest...I named him Puppy Magic

and WON!!!!!

back to the kitty.........

I paper pieced using orange mulberry paper. Cut it out not too close to some of the edges.

Wet the edges with an aqua painter and 'shredded' a bit of the edges to look 'furry'.

Then I cut the tail out, the face I cut out of the same paper as the tail and made sure to cut inside the lines for some of that 'fur' to hang out around the face.....so kitty like...right?

Debating about sending this over to the Kraft Journal.

There is kraft paper all right, but the theme is 'something grand' in honor of

Grandparent's Day. No grand parents for me, but I definitely could

send this one off to a grand child as a 'grand' gesture.

Belle is just one new image at Ellephantastic.

I made a bookmark for one of the grand daughter's now that she is the big reader!

Belle goes on this card and slides right off when needed to be used.
Belle is totally paper pieced...no coloring on this bookmark.
I even cut out the pink hairband!

Mandelas are here again

Daisy Doodles newest challenge is now open.

It's called New Moon and it's anything goes.

Get your card/project done and make sure it has a digi image and get it posted on the challenge blog.

I just printed three of the mandelas, one larger than the other two.

Sprayed them with some mist..obviously, one green and the other purple.
Used the two small ones to make a rosette

Had to get the Kraft Journal in on this challenge, it wasn't hard since kraft paper is just one of

my favorites.

Added some purple glitter glue to the flowers along the edge, alternating total coverage with just a minimal amount.
The cotton crochet I found at a Hospice thrift store in Mount Dora.

Every Flower

Delightful Inspiration inspired me this week to do some resisting.

A 'sorta' emboss resist.

I used Crystal effects on the flowers and leaves, let it dry, and then

brayered some rubber bands over the colored 'embossed' image

using some glitter mist and angel mist.

I only own two bottles and used them both!!

Thank you, Faith, for a great image to play with and use some fabulous techniques.

I got to use my brand new Tim Holtz die for the folded flowers.
Delightful Inspiration also has a Saturday challenge and this week is anything goes
so will submit this one to that challenge.

Faith at Delightful Inspiration created the cutest stitched pumpkins, one with a mouse and one without.

I colored the non-mouse one.

I made sure to add some kraft card stock for the card's base to qualify for the

Kraft Journal 'Anything Goes' challenge.

made my own patterned paper with Distressed Inks and some leaf stamps.

Got out an old stapler to staple the frame to the under layers and staple the ribbons under the button.

Hit three challenge blogs for this card with the wee mouse and her sweet treat.

She is the free image for the beginning of August, so if you

Then for the Kraft Journal's "Carnival, Parades, Parties" challenge I added a piece of embossed

kraft paper that I 'blinged' up with some Stickles.

The card base is a piece of Core-dinations...actually all the paper except the kraft is from the same piece of Core-dination paper. I even used it to paper piece the cupcake liner, then distressed it between the lines

with an old emery board.

OO,OOO her sweet wee face is...kraft paper, too!!!!

Used my Prismacolor pencils to color her ears and give her a bit of blush on her cheeks.

I love to see when crafters mix up the border punches, so I tried it for myself.

The sentiment came with the D2D set which also included a party guy mouse and another sentiment.

The 'core' paper is fab for the embossing folders, just a wee bit 'bleeds' out and if you want more of the

'color' from behind just use an emery board or your distressing tool of choice.

If it's layers you want....

We made a card like this in club a couple of months ago.

thought it would suffice for a challenge demanding of layers.

This mouse is usually caught holding a big present with a tag, but I cut that out to put a picture

of Lily in it's place. I LUV this little fella with the big pink ears.

He's a creation of Helen's at Ellephantastic's.

Our friend Cheli came over one day and took oodles of pictures of Lily

and this is just one more cute one of her.

Soon as the camera comes out Lil's already in a pose.

I do believe that Stampin Up calls this style a telescoping card.

In this photo you can see the wee mouse in all of his glory...big present

and ALL. Just click on photo to enlarge.

Once I glued the image down, I ran both through the embossing folder

for that inlaid look.

Lily has not seen this card, YET!!

School Time Challenge at Daisy Doodles

The Daisy Doodles Creative Challenge blog's theme is School Time.

You can use a school image or the colors of your school.

An apple for the teacher and 'A' is for apples is what was going on in my mind.

the children go back to school in just three weeks.

Oh, how I vacillated over which school time image to use from the Daisy Doodles choices. So I just thought about 'A' is for apples and had to choose from only two apple images...the basket or the apple all by itself.

The 'Apple basket' and 'School Time', which has the single apple, can both be found in the store at Daisy Doodles. Just type into the search window whatever you are looking for and presto that image will appear.

Paper pieced the basket and apples in layers as you can see. got out the very old Sizzlits Alphabet, the spiral punch and the very new Spellbinders pendant.

used the computer for the words, and a sheet of paper from a junior legal pad.

The D2D Saturday Designer's challenge is to use any image, but include at least 3 buttons.

Both designer papers from Stampin Up were sitting on my cutting table as scraps from some previous cards.

Brave Girls

Way back in January of this year I found out that there was a contest at GCD Studios.

It was the Brave Girls Camp contest and

the winners get to go to Melody Ross's Brave Girl Camp (all expenses paid).

there were a few hoops to jump through so I jumped.

Planned and shopped, planned and found that I was going to Melbourne so I

bought my Melody Ross Chipart supplies while I was there visiting my Aunt Jane/godmother.

Bought two tools, some metal stamps and a bunch of Chipart chip board.

And then I procrastinated....what to design, what stamps to use, which pieces would work with what project.

I did not want to scrap book or make a card. i felt that it needed to be over the top. something that no one else would do. I had a chip board book of MR's, but thought that idea would be taken, too!

In my craft room, I had a bug cage...and that was IT!!!

I sprayed and painted, and hammered, and glazed, and hammered, and stamped the metal into ink and paint, and hammered some more. I mixed paints with more paint and some with ink, some with alcohol inks.

I hammered into the wood, into the chip board. I hammered into foil and metal.

I cut into soda cans and bottles. I punched and die cut and hammered even more.

I tried hanging butterflies inside and out, front and back.

I took it all outside and took pictures under the tree, in the tree, on the bricks, in front of dead weeds.

Pictures that had too much sun, too little sun, way too may dead weeds and grass.

Some with more green than you can imagine!

some photos landed in the trash bin as some elements ended up in the recycle bin.

papers were used and abused.

BUT it got done with hours to spare.

I must say that there was one person that helped me find the way through the hoops,

through the rules, over hill and dale, and where to find the list of stores that carried the product and that was

my blogging friend, Laura.

This was a ton of fun and work, but I loved playing and painting, planning and plotting.

No butterflies were harmed in the making of this cage.

Verve...and the last hours

Here for your viewing enjoyment will be two Verve cards on one post. Week three and week four are due by midnight tonight so I have to get cracking.
The power went out Thursday night at 6:30. Lightning hit the transformer. the company said it may be back on by 11 pm and then another automated call said Friday, 1 am. forget the heat, forget the rotting food in the fridge, forget that it will be dark at 9 pm and...forget that I wanted to watch Big Brother!!! I wasn't going to get my last two cards uploaded on SCS and I struggled at 4:30 this morning to get them done before Mimi's Summer Camp started at 7:30am. I watched out the window while the line men were doing their thing. i watched them pull away at 9:45 and no power, yet. The antiquated phone that I keep for these purposes rang and the automated voice told me the power would be restored by Friday......Forget the Verve!!!! Then I hear a series of beeps.....but no light...nothing. I head over to the bedroom where I see light ...and lo and behold the power is on!!!! Ran down here and got the cards uploaded to SCS got the champion thread done and then sat to do the blog.
Now it is 11:24 pm and the eyes are heavy......so here's the quickie you have always waited for....

Week three---

And the card........the rectangle is behind rather than in front of the main image. (It's a piece of vellum.)

Week four......

And the card...again something behind not in front, and no room for a tag.

Two hearts...one black and embossed and the other gold and ran through the wavy crimper. This paper is from one sheet....love the front and back from SU..the name escapes me. All sentiments are from Verve, 'Blessings' and a Plain Jane, 'Nature'

Christmas in July 2

Combined two challenges again today! Kraft Journal's challenge is Christmas in July which is perfect for the Delightful Inspiration Designer's challenge with the Joyful Snowman. His real name is Christmas Snowman, but since I chose the image with the word JOY, I like Joyful snowman. I outlined him with a clear glitter pen and popped up the two snowball gifts. Tried a little creative layering with the Spellbinders and even cut my

twill ribbon from SU with the same Spellbinder to get the perfect edge.

Haven't used an outline sticker is ages and this was the perfect time to get the box of them

out with "Seasons Greetings".

I love kraft card stock, don't you?

The snowflake was in my stash of small die cuts that didn't get used.

I found Jellypark at one of my SBS29 sis's blog. Tracey is on the design team and she makes awesome cards and projects. This little guy was a freebie and how could I resist the challenge? I know right off the bat that I was going to put him with the Trees from the SU set 'Lovely as a Tree' and when it was time to select the paper the idea came to me..dark blue and starry skies. silver paper and dazzling diamonds provide the starry skies and cover the torn edge of the very vanilla paper. I printed out two fellas so I could pop up the scarf and the top hat. I love how half the sky is lit up! (thank you error of the photographer) thanks for coming by!

Mojo Monday

For today's card I used the sketch from Mojo Monday and a sentiment as the focal point for Sentimental Sundays.

This creation measures 5 1/2'' by 5 1/2''. The papers are Stampin Up DSP, Soft Suede, Very Vanilla and the inks are Baja Breeze and Tea Dye from Ranger. I did not emboss the Spellbinders, but did sponge them while the dies were still on the paper. did not want to hide all those buttons so made my under layer a frame to show them off. The sentiment is from Verve's set, 'Blessings'. This card also works it's way right into the Verve Diva Dare for another chance at some lovely Verve stamps.

Mandelas?

I still have no clue as to what a mandela is! However, when I head on over to the Daisy Doodles store, it shows me a mandela. It shows me three sets of three and they look like doilies in the digital arena. But what is a mandela? My dictionary doesn't even have mandela in it. it must be an English thing. It really doesn't matter because Jules at Daisy Doodles has created some gorgeous ones. You can find them in the $1 basket.
I printed out a few and Megan colored one while Lily was sleeping. Here's mine and scroll down for Megan's

I am very much into these little fan folded embellishments. I find that the thinner paper works best and will stay put better than the card stock which is heavier.

Megan is working on a photo album and this image will be on the front cover.

She should be finishing it up tomorrow so until then this is what you get!!!

Mojo Monday hits 200!!! and there are prizes to be won.

There is also the great DIVA Dare going on at VERVE.

The challenge on day one is to highlight a sentiment and use some papers that are being hoarded.

The dp and brown are from the same paper Daisy D's - double sided, then I added some Pale Plum for an accent color.

I used the All Purpose Ink from SU in Champagne Mist and my index finger to smear it all over the embossed areas of the Spellbinders Lattice Pendant. While the stenciling is not perfect it adds to the shabby!

Dark gray thread on the sewing machine matches the writing on the DP.

The sponging was done with some Vintage Photo

The Verve sentiment is from the Blessings stamp set.

and knew I had to incorporate it into the waltz.

Ink used was from SU and Distressed ink - Antique Linen, Shabby Shutters, Early Espresso, Close to Cocoa, Wild Wasabi, Pear Pazzazz, Regal Rose

Here's two pics of how I got the box started--

click on the photo to see the directions, as I deviated a bit from the original box on Audrey's blog.

This box is easy whether you have the Pennant dies or you cut them out with scissors.

Just be sure the base is square and the base sides are the same measurement as the base of your triangle. If you are cutting out your own try Audrey's idea and start with the same size chipboard. If cereal isn't on your list you can use the stiff cardboard that comes with a pkg of paper, or desperate measures call for layering a few triangles of card stock together to get a nice sturdy box.

Here are a few more photos of the box where you can see the different ways I did each side.

I Stamped the claddogh and cut out the heart and crown only.

For this side I stamped the smallest of the 'Big Blooms' three times and cut each one smaller than the last. remember you can click on each photo for enlarging.

The liquid pearls, on the frame on the left, were a disappointment. they looked so nice and then once they dried they looked a bit disheveled. (Two of them were messed up due to crafter errors.)

Here on this last side there is not a WMS stamp, but the tag certainly is from the 'Big Blooms - Chrysanthemums'. The sentiment is from two stamps from Celtic Heritage. I stamped the leaf in Pink Pirouette then rocked it a bit in Regal Rose, came back with the co-ordinating outline stamp and used Pear Pazzazz. the little tag is a Sizzix Sizzlit and was in a set with three other small plates. that tag came on the same plate as the label that I used for hinges on the base of the box.

After I shot this pic I added the very small bird to the tag and you can see it (the bird) at the very top of this post.

Verve's Viva la Verve week two is done and three is in the works already. so I am a little behind. That's what is so great about the Verve challenges on SCS you can do them whenever in whatever order...there are no police checking the dates, etc. One month I did all four/five in one week and then got them all posted at once.

New Moon

There are two new moons this month July 1st and July 30th so it's appropriate to call the Daisy Doodles Challenge, New Moon. a new moon means Anything Goes at Daisy Doodles. Make anything you like using a digital image and enter it into the Daisy Doodles Creative Challenge. Now on to the card. I chose the flip flops from 'Summer Fun'...am I giving away my age when I tell you that when I was younger flip flops were called thongs? Now, when I tell Lily to get her thongs on she stops and says, "What do you mean Mims?" Every time!!!!! Wouldn't you think that she would catch on? I bought her three pairs of thongs and I know that she couldn't possibly know about the other kind of thongs.

The sentiment is from WMS set, Teeny Trees. I just kept stamping it til I thought there

were enough 'miss yous'.

I saw a card similar to this one and can not remember to give credit to the designer. It was green and that's all that I can recall. The elephant is from Helen at Ellephantastic. It's one of her newest images in her store.

Right now the elephant ears are hiding 'Elle'.

Used the leaves to hide the white elephant.

Book borrowed

You all know that a book is borrowed from the library. Knowing that here's my entry for The Kraft Journal's challenge, 'Something Borrowed, Something Blue". So link the borrowed to a book and the blue to the Spellbinder's Label Twenty-one and there you have it, "SB, SB"!!!!

The thin chip board is cut twice so I could place the ribbon between them, and then the light kraft paper adhered over it. Spellbinders dies sure do make it easy to layer all the papers so perfectly.

There is ample ribbon out the top as well as the bottom for finding that last place read.

Oh! I am such a book borrower it hurts me to see where ppl have bent over the corner to save their place.

In the summer, I average about four books in a two week period. I could read more, but then nothing else would get done around here. Believe me when I say that it's hard to run Mimi's Summer Camp and read novels at the same time. Ask the two girls...they will tell you that their Mims likes to read. The three of us check out 10-12 books every week from our community library!

Books for me to read to them, Lily with books to look at the pictures, and Megs loves to read, too!

Megs enters first grade in August and she is a prolific reader! She's a bit afraid of the chapter books, "So many words on a page!" she says, but she did manage to read just one so far this summer.

It's free week time and that means Tableau Tuesdays at Daisy Doodles. We have a young lady this month that agreed to be our guest designer. You may have met her during the Daisy Doodle blog hop, Liz Gorka. To see her wonderful cards and bookmark head on over to the DD Creative Challenge Blog.
For my free week card, I chose "Bloomin' Potty" from the DD store, added some sparkle by way of a Sakura clear glitter pen. Used a hardly ever Spellbinders die set, the scalloped and plain squares and three silk flowers from a bouquet.

All the papers were on the work counter from previous cards.

Glossy accents were used on the flower pot to make it look like white ceramic.
Don't forget you can always click on the photo to get a better look at the glitter.

Here we have a Daisy Doodles image, 'Candle'.

It can be found in the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' set.

I used the Spellbinders Labels 21 for the tops of the kraft card stock and chipboard

for a different tag topping!

Had some bright green thread and thought a bit of sewing might look nice with it.

The remnant from the border punch was used for the letters' tags.

Made the bright green ribbon extra long to hang over the top of the pages of the book!

Sentimental Sundays is looking for some INKY Fingers for this weeks challenge.

Delightful Inspiration's Strawberries

The strawberries certainly are 'delightful'. I used them to combine with a challenge from Waltzingmouse Stamps sketch challenge.

I inked up the Swiss Dots ef with black and then sent it through the Cuttlebug with a piece of SU Natural Ivory cs to resemble the strawberry, and then sponged some Cherry Cobbler very gently over the debossing side of the card stock. I made a frame from the Spellbinders labels 14 and 10 and inserted the ''strawberries" from D2D behind the frame and added two different Fancy Tags in back and on both sides for interesting elements.. Added some clear and one pink gem, some velvet ribbon and the WMS sentiment from 'Teeny Trees'. Added some dimensionals in a few spots and called it 'done'.

One of my gal pals is starting a book club and we have our first books. The library was kind enough to loan us five of the six books that we needed. One of our BC members already has the book. Thought it might be nice if I made them all a book mark. Here's the first one wielding an image from Ellephantastic because I needed a patriotic creation, also, for The Kraft Journal. The image is the newest from Elle and just happens to be an elephant...how patriotic can one get? Just missing the A*@ to make it the most politically correct book mark.

Took a lightweight chip board and used spellbinders label 21 on the top only. Took a piece of Kraft and used the side of the Labels 21 at the top....don't you just love how versatile the Spellbinders can be if you just think out of the box...ooops die? I've got my striped paper in the bg and plenty of stars on the front to make a patriotic book mark for a book club member.

Shaking and more shaking!

Verve time.

Here's my first week of July creation, right after the sketch.

With all the shaking going on thought it would be appropriate to have all the paper shaking, too!

So, it's all uneven and totally shaken up. One of the Verve divas used 'What's Shaking?' stamp set and right then and there I knew I was going to use it, too. So I more or less just CASE (d) Amy's card

from the Viva La Verve thread there at SCS. I just shook mine up a bit!!!!

All the papers are Stampin Up with one exception...the blue and white DP...that I bought at Target...

99 cents for a variety pack of patterned paper.

Bought it for the girls to use and stole a piece before I gave it to them.

So thievery is the pattern for this post...plain ole thievery.

What do MOJO Monday, D2D and Kraft Journal have in common?

My newest card.

NO, you are not seeing double!

I am trying out something new in Picasa 3 and can't decide if I want to go the extra bit. So will play with it for a few times and make the choice. Any input from my peanut gallery?

Combining the three challenges this morning was a walk on the beach!!! I checked out all three challenges and knew that all three could work for one card....first the digi at Delightful Inspiration (D2D): 'Flip Flops' are the freebie this week since it's the first one of JULY.
Second, the Kraft Journal's challenge is something old and something new! The red jeweled flip flop is years old and the DSP and kraft papers are brand new, just bought them yesterday!! The twine is about as old as Methuselah, but the seam bindings are less than a year old.
Last but not least is Mojo Monday 197 where you have a choice of round or square sketch.

I took Julee's advice from her MOJO Blog and made my card 4 1/4 inch square.
I have been playing, also, with the photography skills that I obviously don't have much of...yet. My friend, Cheli came over and made me a photo box....my pics look great til I get them on the blog and then they just look so flat!!!! I have put the photo box outside in full sun light, used the lights here in the craft room and it's always the same....they look wonderful in Picasa and in Paint, but once they are posted....not so lovely!!!
need to work on this...some how!

Fetch a Sketch

I found a brand new challenge blog and their first challenge is a sketch, hence Fetch a Sketch!!!

Once again I resorted to Daisy Doodles images and a Waltzingmouse sentiment, on a Verve Cut Above die.
How bout them apples..ERRR....... tickets?

OOOPS! I left out the two sets of tiny embellishments on the right side! If only I could wiggle my nose and make them appear...oh well...just pretend that they are there or think of the dots as my tiny circles!!!
The big flower and the small ones behind it are from DD, and so are the three leaves. I sponged on all the colors even the dots on the large flower. papers are SU, Club Scrap, white, and the bg DSP is from My Mind's Eye about a million years ago...2006 to be exact!!!! Talk about hoarding....I am trying not to buy paper til the stash gets lower, a bunch lower. I have a piece of mesh that has circles and I use it repeatedly when I need dots on a project...just tape it down and sponge away in any color that strikes me or matches the project. the flower center was colored and then covered with Glossy Accents, then the dots (Tango Tangerine) and then the blue sponging with Taken with Teal. The leaf die cut from SU is ridiculously difficult to separate...any suggestions? I have to resort to my tiny scissors. I have tried different thicknesses of paper and used shims...and still not working! The WMS sentiment is from Teeny Trees, and the Verve die is Charming Ovals. The tickets...well I have a huge roll of them and a story that's for another day!!!

The Teapotter's Yell "FORE"

Teapot Tuesdays is a fun, more than fun, a hilarious spoof on different subjects. Cindy is the mother off all teapot subjects and this week is no different. Actually the teapot that I am working on is for next Tuesday-----SHHHH---don't tell...some of us get a head start and I grabbed it today because it goes so well with the sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 123.

My golfer friend is none other than Freddy from Daisy Doodles.

The sentiments are clear stickers that I found in the BOTD.

I used my air inker/mister to spray Bashful Blue on the sky and Mellow Moss and Wild Wasabi

on the grass. I colored a second shirt and pants for Freddy to pop up(to cover my 'spraying').

Each week Cindy finds a destination for the 'teapotters' to send their cards.

This week's destination is Harrisville, Pennsylvania. How about sending it to Nathan, the friend of Stephanie, a fellow SCSer (steffers). Nathan (goes by Manny) is only 31 years old and was recently diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia. He is currently undergoing chemo and bone marrow tests.
Nathan is a new dad. When he took Oliver, his 4 month old son for his check-up, he was asked by the pediatrician if he (Nathan, the daddy) was feeling OK . The doctor thought that his coloring was off and suggested that Nathan go to his primary care physician to be checked for anemia. One thing led to another and within two weeks he was diagnosed. The family is hoping that Nathan can return home soon. He loves his little Oliver and misses him terribly. He has been able to Skype with Oliver and that helped tremendously getting him through the long days in the hospital. Stephanie is praying that Nathan will be able to hug that little guy very soon. The family feels very optimistic. Nathan is young and strong (athlete type). He golfs, bowls and played basketball in High School and College. With prayers they will get through this.
Stephanie can't wait to see his mail box fill up! And I should mention that she will, literally! Stephanie is the Post Master in the small town where Nathan lives. She will literally be the person filling up that mailbox! How cool is that?

Simple sketch

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge has an incredibly easy sketch this week.

The paper is GP white and a soft yellow textured paper from Club Scrap.
Inks are distressed...tea dye, weathered wood, and dried marigold.
No time to chat today the girls want to go to the park...the sun is out, the rain has stopped and we need to take advantage of the weather when we can...even if it is 99 degrees outside, o...did I mention the humidity?

I haven't missed a Viva la Verve challenge since I started last year in March. This month I came close to not playing, but then some time opened up and here I am with the last one for this month. Teresa created this awesome sketch and here's the link to her thread at SCS.

I cut one of the flowers out and placed in the corner of the green and yellow frame. I had some brand new felt, blue and used it with the cotton twine. My papers came from the same SU pack(Greenhouse Gala) and then I pulled some scraps for the solid colors.

It's Daisy Doodles time. This is our free week...no theme...just create what ever using a DD image.
Well, I made a card and it looked perfect for our July 4th challenge of Summer Doodles so I put it aside and got cracking on the hot air balloon. This card measures 4 1/4 by 6 inches just right for the envelopes that are 4 3/4 by 6 1/2 inches.

This card sure could pass for a fun summer card, too, and the colors sure do apply to summer! I must be in a super summer creative mood!!! Planning on sending this card to an old friend whose bday is July 3rd.
The hot air balloon is available in the Daisy's Digi Store and you can find it in the Summer Fun set.

Delightful Inspiration has a beautiful set of images this week, called

Tropical Summer...I just love the hibiscus flowers. We have a fabulous one at the bottom of the stairs

at the entry way. I went out in the rain to see if I could get a good shot. It rained here all

night and the blossoms are heavy with water. I had to picked them and set them on top of the

leaves to get a decent shot. I was not going to lie in the water to photo these babies while they

were still attached. Brought them inside to see if i could get a better shot and.....

I have been so busy working on a project (can't share yet) that my card making has been put on the back burner. Got two Verve sketches done and the third is in the works. Need to have all four done before Thursday and get them posted on SCS to be eligible to win some Verve goodness!!!
The project is completed since the due date was June 24th...hemmed and hawed for months...mojo left the craft room...for this project... so just shoved it to the back of my mind and then wasn't even going to do it and then.....
out came the paint and chip board and tools ...and I can say no more, at this time. Can't wait to show it to you....after July 10th ...I think!!!
Meanwhile back to the Verve challenges....

I confess...i read...i read......i read almost anything....fiction, non-fiction, drama, romance, thrillers, detective stories...i read. I am on the fence about an e-reader because I love going to the library, hunting the shelves for a good read. lately, I don't get past the first shelves...14 Day only releases and LARGE PRINT volumes are right as you walk into my library. there is always a book or two or three that catches my eye and since I only have fourteen days, I limit myself to three at the most. I must tell you that the latest one.."Somewhere Inside" by Lisa and Laura Ling about Laura's capture by the North Koreans was a 'can't put it down READ'!

I used the library due date card for a bookmark. When I saw Casual Fridays and WMSC challenges this morning...they screamed, "Make yourself a bookmark!"
Casual Fridays- clean and simple wanted a color block theme and
WMSC-using WMS stamps wanted to celebrate their one year by using a sketch from the last fifty-two.

AND I wanted a bookmark-------

I stamped the yellow plaid with a tea cup and punched a few circles and glued to make a button and attached the button to the oval with the ribbon.

I used WMS challenge 29 for my inspiration.

The large oval is attached only by the ribbon at the top and the teapot is attached with only the two brads to the tag base.

Stars and or Stripes are the challenge for the Independence Day challenge at Daisy Doodles.
For my creation I chose the boat from Summer Fun set at the Daisy Doodles store.

I had it printed on blue paper and Spellbinders again to die cut it and then cut off the bottom and add it to the top with some ribbon and white cotton twine. It was an easy ship to set sail! Oh, before I forget...the Stars embossing folder was sponged with red ink and then the white paper was added and had a run through the Cuttlebug. this is only the second time that I tried this technique.
I have company for the weekend and need to keep this post short, to the point, and go enjoy my dtr and her family! Be sure to check out the Daisy Digi store and the challenge using stars and or stripes.

I have a bit of news at the bottom of this post!!!

One of the team members at Ellephantastic showed us how to make a card organizer. So so simple.
Jill provided instructions and a link to get the calenders for the album. I did my front and back covers more like a book and used chip board. I like the finished look on the inside, too.
Don't you think this Wishing Well is great already colored? AND the great news...it's free in Helen's SHOP.

I used Ellephantastic images that were pre-colored.... the Wishing Well is the first one and there are a few more on some of the months. Will show the inside at the end of the post.

I do not own a binder for crafting, but remembered that I had one that is quite old and there were some combs, too! I had never used it. It was a gift for our SIL while he was in college...he made many of his own spiral notebooks for his classes...and it has come to roost in our home. More specifically in my

craft closet in the hallway. Googled the maker and found instructions for use, cleared the cobwebs and dust.

And here it is!!!

As I look at my notebook/card organizer the more that I like the old fashioned binder comb.

It's not as ribbon friendly as the more modern ones, but it's available and does the trick.

I just think the 17th of every month is a great day.

Cuz I just think that Waltzingmouse stamps...ROCKS!!!

The waltz theme for June 2011 is 4th July/Americana

As I have no stamps what-so-ever for Americana from WMS

I ~~have to~~ will improvise.
I thought about the DCWV patriotic papers from last summer...perused my
WMS stamp sets and when I found the sentiment I went with the house
in Celtic Heritage.

PAPER PIECED
The sky and lawn are sponged in blues and greens respectively.
I used the stars from Teeny Trees for the south side of the house.
Oh, yes, the thatched roof is sponged, also. The pathway is kraft paper dotted
with a marker.
The big stars are triple layered and made into buttons with the CAD.
That smaller star has a tiny white star brad in the middle.
The sentiment? Can you guess which stamp set it came from?
Keeping this post short there may be a few more blogs to get to use your dance card.
With the kraft path and small frames this card is good for the Kraft Journal's
Make it Monday Father's Day challenge.

This image from Daisy Doodles is 'Rainy Day Freddy', but I needed some purple going on so Freddy's real name is Fredricka.

I found that ticket stamp in a box of rogue stamps. I do believe that it's from Club Scrap. The 'thanks' senti was just sitting on my desk begging to be inked. Since ~~Freddy~~ Fredricka was so simple I thought that I would cut her out after coloring with my Prismacolor pencils and OMS...just to be different. I very rarely make a card anymore without a Spellbinders on it. Got to use my home made glue gun drops, too!

Here's the latest image from Delightful Inspiration 'Mary, Mary' on my card.

Paper piecing is one of my favorite things to do with a digital image...but it takes more time and some patience with the printer, not to mention the fussy cutting of each layer.
Punched out the little flowers from the papers for a nice match and added the tiny half pearls.
"Grow" was just one word I inked up that was in a phrase on a wooden stamp.

Carwash...or not

My friend Cheryl sent me a link...she knew that i was looking for things for the kids to do this summer...

check this out

Got out my pencil and paper and drew MY version of the car wash of my dreams!

The plumber had about 1/2 hour today that he was free of calls and plumbing.

I loved the Homespun version of the night carwash as I am all about recycling and crafting with

materials at hand. BUT...not the plumber.

He had all the materials on his truck so there was no recycling of old hoses or jerry rigging with duct tape!

AND

this is what he came up with for the girls.....

There was no waiting til the bikes got here for the 'car wash'.

They loved playing and running and dancing and singing through the new sprinkler. The plumber wanted to make it higher so I could ride my bike through there. I nixed that idea.

John cut the pipe, I drilled the holes, and he did all the 'gluing'.

He even put a valve at the connector so the girls can control the flow of water.

I was in charge of moving it periodically to water different areas of the lawn.

We got our fun and exercise in today!!!

Megan has stated that carwash day is every Thursday.

The plumber was perplexed...I made that for one day a week of play?

Yeppers, I said...think of the water bill!!!!

He smirked...hmmm, one day a week?

I made my own sentiment today!!!!! I had to think up something to go with the card that I made for the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge and coordinate it with a challenge at Sentimental Sundays, "Inspired By Song".

Here's the sketch from Miss Edna.....

Funny, how I refer to her as Miss Edna. I have known
two other Ednas in my life and both were called Miss Edna...
no disrespect for Edna Morrisedie, it's just a habit. Ok...that's done...respectfully so!!!!

My card reflects the sketch...some what.....

Stamps are from WMS Teeny Trees
Paper is from a secret sister..it came embossed and cut...how nice, and white and kraft. They match the inks below.
Ink is Soft Suede, Sage Shadow, and Bordering Blue, oh and a bit of black for the sentiment.
Tools, of course were the cuttlebug to cut out the Spellbinders...the tiniest ones on the front and a medium one on the inside that read:
"Knowing you is like growing hugs on trees."
I used my mini Janome to sew the edge around the card base after I stamped the sentiment. You know me - it couldn't be symmetrical.

I tried a little some thing different with PICNIK in Picasa for the inside of my card......it 'leaks' the ink away from the focal point...cool, very cool.

DD and a Masculine card

It's Challenge time at Daisy Doodles.....I picked 'Fore! Freddy' to make a masculine card for a young man's birthday!

I used the Swiss dots embossing folder and slid my paper in backwards so that it would have dimples like a golf ball. Took the blue stick from the Prismacolors pencil set and rubbed it on the white cs for the sky and used a pencil to make the grass.

Made my own red ticket to match the orange one using Stamin Up's perforater in the distressing kit, and the ticket punch.

As I am not needing a baby card right this moment...I made this one very non-gender specific. I can remember back in the day most layettes were yellow or green since Moms-to-be had no clue if they were having a boy or girl.

May's last WMS sketch challenge

Time is running out for this weeks sketch challenge at WMSC. It started in May and ends June 3rd.

Was playing around with an idea in my head and my practice piece became the focal point. I stamped it once with the Vintage labels 5...embossed the three dies and then my paper wasn't quite big enough to cut it all out with the largest die in the set, so I used the same one that was used to emboss. I inked up the teapot with Crumb Cake and inked it off once to get the second generation hue. Then Regal Rose over the teapot....I bought a string of pearls and adhered two of them here with some teeny tiny home made glue dots. The die is popped up and a teapot charm added. I always tend to do the sketches verbatim. I very rarely step out of the box with a sketch. I must remember that the sketches are for inspiration and as long as the sketch can be 'seen' the rest is all
about creativity.

I learned something about inspiration and creativity from myself...an ah ha moment for me.

Sentimental Sundays is looking for 'Anything but a Card', and the Kraft Journal wants Kraft paper and Memorial Day for inspiration. So here's a tag honoring our liberty to qualify for both challenges. Just found out this morning that I won over at Sentimental Sundays for my single layer card here.

The stamps are from Stampin' Up, an older set called 'Land That I Love'
The two sentiments,stars, and flag are accompanied by three other
stamps- another sentiment, an eagle, and a Statue of Liberty. A perfect set for a patriotic project.

I started with a chip board tag, then added the Real Red and kraft layers.
those teeny tiny stars are the tiniest brads that I have ever bought and come in the patriotic colors and silver.

The flag stamp was inked up with Sahara Sand and then with markers I colored the rubber and then huffed and stamped onto plain white paper.
after a little fussy cutting it was done and glued right onto the kraft layer, over the stars.

The lower sentiment reads, "Where liberty dwells there is my country."

Happy end of May....where did the last five months go????

Daisy Doodles free week card is done. It was easy and very care free!
The image was previously colored weeks ago and found it when I sat down to start a card. Looked through my files for a DD image and there was 'Playtime Amy' ready to go atop and play on one of my cards.
I found a bin of baby theme eyelets and I haven't used an eyelet
in quite some time.
The DP in the bg....I remembered being in the DP scraps folder.

Flower Books with D2D

Hope you are having a peaceful Memorial Day weekend.

'Big Bloom' is the Delightful Inspirations free digi this week. I printed it out big and small on white card stock and on copy paper--wanted to make 'books' for Lily. She will want one for her 'puppies', too. They are her imaginary friends. They cause her to get in trouble, they always get what they want...'my little puppies are hungry'...'my little puppies are so tired'...'my little puppies love sparkles'...need I say more? Two 'books' it is then.

Use the one copy with the plain paper to cut out about 8 layers to form the inside of your 'book', staple before cutting. For the front and back I stapled one edge to the back piece of card stock and then cut.This makes the cutting out so much more even. Once the coloring was done with Prismacolor Pencils and OMS I 'put the books together, added some scraps of ribbon and then went about adding the Stickles.
Lily will be delighted to see these and write in them! I wonder what her puppies will think...can the puppies write and draw?
Guess I'll find out on Wednesday.

Peanut machine

There was a challenge to make a card with a food image and kids in mind during the VSN last week over at Splitcoast Stampers. Here's my creation:

That stamp set is Treat Yourself from Stampin Up, and the paper is October Afternoon. The punched tab says 'Peanuts...1 cent' for that I used my Just Rite tiny letters and horizontal block. The background on the tab is Verve's bountiful Backgrounds. Gotta love those dots!!

The 'gumball machine' has a piece of acetate for the 'glass' and it was stamped with Cherry Stazon.

The peanuts were fun to cut out and I had to glue them down cuz the little buggers wouldn't stay still. I do believe it was the static on the acetate that caused them to move all over the place until I lifted the acetate and then they all 'stuck to it'. It was hilarious until it got to be a time issue. Remember we only had 45 minutes to create our cards.

There's a new baby in our family. My cousin Pat's daughter just had another adorable baby girl.

There is nothing sweeter than a new baby!

And LOOK at the new digi I got from Delightful Inspiration!

This pink fluffy teddy is called "Summer Days".

Found the acetate and silver tag in the BOTD...then came the SU sentiment,

and the Heidi Swapp pink flower bling. I think cotton
twine on a card is fab, don't you?

but then again, I just love cotton twine!!!!

You just might recognize this sketch.

Jen's SFYTT sponsor this month is Your next Stamp and I don't own any,

so Delightful Inspirations came to my rescue.

The oval was a much better fit with 'Summer Days' than the circle

would have been...plus I luv the clear tag!!!!!

It's simple but it's not flat. the layers are popped up with dimensionals.

One Layer and a Martini

When one has a very limited time to stamp and create a card, one makes as few layers as possible.

Here's one that challenged us to use alcohol be it ink, straight out of the bottle using a technique, or alcohol

related stamps. As I own one Copic marker i went with some cocktails that definitely contain alcohol when made for consumption IRL.

This card is 4 1/4" square and I'm thinking about putting some bling on the 'canopy/punched border'.

I used the one Copic marker to outline just a wee bit of the bases of the glasses and ice bucket. if you look closely you can just about see it. Glossy Accents were used in the making of all cocktails and ice cubes.

Not one olive was harmed in the making of this card!!!!!

Daisy Doodles Challenge

It's Daisy Doodles Time for a challenge.

With Memorial Day right around the corner Daisy's girls are challenging you to make a red/white/blue card

or project using any digital image that you might have in your arsenal of crafty goodness.

Would love to see a Daisy Doodles image but any will do and if you are lucky enough to be a winner then you could pick your very own images from the store.

I chose this nice apple from School Time....is there any thing more memorable than the red apple for your teacher or an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

As I stitched the sentiment had a crazy idea to keep stitching to the end of the ribbon

and see what I could come up with when it came time to adhere it to the card.

Well...just pulled the bobbin thread and gathered up the ribbon and used some double sticky tape to get it to stay there. that sentiment tag is just Spellbinders label Two scored and folded in half after stamping.

Virtual Stamp Night

VSN was two days of vigorous card making. It started on Monday evening, lasted 5 hours. Saturday, VSN started at Noon and lasted 11 hours. We were challenge to make a card in 45 minutes at the top of every hour. There were challenges and there were CHALLENGES to get a card done in 45 minutes....then photograph it, edit it, and get it uploaded onto SCS and then get it posted in the correct thread. It was not always easy...they gave you no time to eat, sleep, or be merry!!! Friday I ate early before the competition started...no problem..I have a small fridge for water...and personal time is just down the hall. Saturday...ate lunch early and made a sandwich, just in case for later....no worries. Then DH made dinner...whoa...he grilled burgers...wait a minute...he does make the best burgers, well done, but the best burgers. Went up threw a burger together, sat with DH, ate, and ran back downstairs while, God Love Him, he did the dishes...oh, BTB, I did manage to put the ketchup, mustard, pickles, tomato back in the fridge. Nice of me...huh? I got all 16 cards done within the specified time frame...well, with the computer lags at SCS some of them were on the thread 4, 6, 9 minutes late which ate into that hours creating a card. It was FUN and quite an accomplishment.

This is one of the cards that I made on Saturday night! It's a perfect entry into CAS-ual Fridays. They love clean and simple and this weeks challenge is to bring on the bling.

The hardest part of the VSN was at the top of the hour, each new challenge and theme, getting the right paper. It was 1. stop a minute, 2. get off the last theme 3. breathe 4. WHAT PAPER?

I confess each round I wanted to just grab the paper that was sitting on the counter!

To go hunt and look for the right paper was a time consumer.

There were many instances that a scrap or already punched element left over from other

projects were grabbed and used. Once when I went to a scrap drawer, there was an unused swing card...just the skeleton. It was not perfect and was tossed in the neutral drawer.

PERFECT

I made a swing card in such little time...stamped all the bare spots...no time to cut all those small pieces that I like on that style of card. I thought it cane out rather well and no one can see the imperfections that made me 'throw it away'.

the challenge was to hide something in the project...Can you find the pink butterfly?

O! And, BTB, that butterfly/dragonfly stamp...I rec'd that in the mail from my Big Sis at Divine Secret Sisters a secret sister group over at Splitcoast on Friday. It's a clear stamp...all in one...measures about 5 inches by 1 1/2 inches and made by Fiskar...very cool...and came in very handy!!!!!

Here's my card for week one of Viva la VERVE
at Splitcoast Stampers.

I made my own bg paper from Kindred Spirits stamp set from Verve, of course.
The Vintage Oval die in distressed gray was cut in half and applied on both sides of that strip of DP from DCWV. Two pearl headed pins had two more pearls and seed beads attached to opposite ends...for safety.
That is a wee silver dragonfly charm from my beading box of goodies. I glued a rhinestone onto the
hole...just click on the photo to enlarge.

Stamp your Border at WMSC

That is my handmade flower from the little circle stamp from the Very Vintage Labels Five at WMS.

the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge asked us to stamp our borders...so I did. With the exception of my sentiments all stamped images are from the one set Very Vintage labels 5. I used the circly thing for my bg on the base cs using Versamark and alternating with Moonlight Brilliance.

That flower is three layers of the circle stamp and attached with the brad to the spellbinders die and the only one that is popped up.

The side border is two pieces of pale yellow, one is hand cut, obv and the other is punched and then stamped.

My wee friend is due to wake up here shortly so this is a quick...'giter dun' post.

Sentimental Sundays is challenging with a hand made flower....i qualify!!!!
